What Do We Do?

We are a regenerative farm and our dream is to bring organic food to as many people as possible! We care deeply about equitable, fair & safe healthcare, plant-centered nutrition, and our #1 goal is to make sustainability and nutrient dense foods accessible to the people that need it the most.

We started our first farm in Oregon. We restored and operated a very large greenhouse filled with garden beds. We had about 150 chickens, ducks, and geese who we loved and cared for deeply.

We ran a wonderful CSA (community supported agriculture) program for the Portland Metro area. We  provided an assortment of vegetables and eggs to many happy families!

We have now transitioned to Hawaii and are operating a deep water culture, hydroponic farm. We have also started a dog daycare and boarding business.

Our farm/house space is fully fenced and mostly grass. We have 2 resident dogs who love having friends over!

Meet your Farmers:

Rachel: I am the owner and operator of LoveBug Farm. I am passionate about dogs and animal communication. I am a self taught animal behaviorist and qualitative researcher. I am also passionate about organic food and happy, healthy bodies!

I enjoy sunshine, being around happy people, and creating a life that is worth living.

My mission is to lead with love and to work in Pono with all beings and the land.

I grew up in Boulder, Colorado and moved to the Big Island when I was 17 to attend college at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo here on the Big Island. I lived on the island for 5 years and fell in love with the culture, the community, the spirit of Aloha, and the inter-connected & peaceful way of life that exists here.

After getting my BA I moved to Portland, Oregon to attend graduate school. I have a MA in Communication with a focus in health.

After living on the island and learning about the food insecurity issues that affect people on a daily basis, I'm looking forward to contributing to the community in a way that is helpful.

I am here to feed my community and make the dogs that live here be as happy as possible!

Alex: Alex is my partner in crime. He works full time for US Fish and Wildlife and is also the secret sauce behind LoveBug. Alex comes from an intensive and dynamic farming and natural conservation background. He has grown his own food for as long as he can remember.

He will soon be a graduate of the Master Gardener program held at UH Hilo.

He's deeply committed to decreasing the negative impact that he has on this planet. He's even more committed to regenerating the soil he walks on and eating delicious greens he's growing, all while singing his own theme song that he creates while gardening.

Alex has a MA in History and served in the Peace Corps helping communities in Africa with sustainable terrace farming. He also spent more than a decade as a park ranger working at all of our major parks on the mainland.
He now helps save the native plants, birds, and other species on the Big Island working remotely for U.S. Fish and Wildlife!

We both do a ton of hard, manual labor. We enjoy getting our hands dirty and we LOVE to eat fresh produce!
